Historical Archaeologist

The Garcia and Associates, San Rafael Office and cultural team is seeking a historical archaeologist with the following key attributes:

• M.A. in archaeology or cultural resources management
• Minimum five years of full-time CRM experience in California, with supervisory experience in the field.
• Excellent communication skills, including strong technical report writing.
• Expertise in directing historical archaeological investigations- including background/archival research, field directing both excavations, and interpretation, and being the lead author of reports.
• Experience conducting historical archaeological investigations in San Francisco (urban environments required)
• Experience with the process for NRHP/CRHR identification, evaluation, and data recovery using Harris Matrix
• Strong understanding of CEQA and Section 106 compliance requirements
• Historical archaeological materials analytical skills
• Must be a skilled archival researcher
• Experience preparing DPR forms
• Current knowledge of and interest in pertinent historical research themes in California
• Experience cataloging artifact collections using both excel and access databases
• Ability to work independently, lead and perform as part of a team of professionals
• Advanced problem solving, analytical, conceptual skills
• Competence with technology, including experience with using GPS, tablets, laptop, digital cameras, and the Microsoft Office Suite of products
• Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to work in fast-paced environment will multiple responsibilities
• Work location is our Marin County office- must be able to work in the office.
• A current driver’s license
• Sense of humor required
